How to Measure
Your Windows

Getting the right measurement is the most important step. Follow our guide and your custom shades will fit perfectly — guaranteed.

Step 1: Choose Your Mount Type

Step 2: Measure for Inside Mount

1

Measure Width

  • Measure the inside width of the window opening in 3 places: top, middle, and bottom.
  • Use the SMALLEST measurement for your order.
  • We'll deduct 3/8" automatically for a perfect fit.
Always measure in inches to the nearest 1/8".
2

Measure Height

  • Measure from the top of the window opening straight down to the sill.
  • Measure in 3 places: left, center, and right.
  • Use the LONGEST measurement for your order.
For valances, add 2–3" to your height measurement.
3

Check Depth

  • Measure the depth of the window frame (how deep the recess is).
  • Most standard shades require at least 2" of depth.
  • Motorized shades require 3" minimum depth.
Not enough depth? Use outside mount instead.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don't round to the nearest inch

Always measure to the nearest 1/8". A 1/4" difference can mean your shade won't fit.

Measure multiple times

Windows aren't always perfectly square. Measure in 3 places and use the smallest width / largest height.

Account for obstructions

Check for window cranks, handles, or locks that the shade might hit when lowered.

Check the deduction

For inside mounts, we automatically deduct 3/8" from your width for proper fit. Don't deduct it yourself.
